Barbour County Courthouse Renovation
Barbour County's historic courthouse was built in 1903 of hand-cut Hummelstown stone and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It replaced the original courthouse, built in 1843, which was used to house Union troops during the Civil War. Restoration began in 1995 including repair and replacement of the original stained glass dome.
Barbour County CDC was the lead organization, raising private donations for materials costs and organizing inmate work crews for labor. The project was named "Best Interior Rehabilitation Project" in 1999 by the Main Street Project of the West Virginia Development Office.
